Can my loft be converted?
The majority of lofts have the ability to be converted, even truss roofs however there are occasions where it is not feasible due to having a lack of head room. In order to establish if your loft can be converted we are more than happy to come and give a free consultation.
How long does a loft conversion take?
The time scale obviously depends on the type of conversion & scope you require however for example a small Velux loft conversation generally takes around 4 weeks.
Once a quotation has been provided and confirmation from yourselves that you are happy with all the details has been agreed we will provide you will a schedule of works. This will allow you to see all timescales and what is being done at what stage.
Do I need planning permission for my loft conversion?
If you live in a conservation area or your building is listed planning permission may be required for work which would normally not require it - always check with your local authority. If you have a situation which you think falls outside of these guidelines or are in any way unsure, it is best to contact your local authority who will give you the necessary guidance.
Not all conversions need planning permission, the general rule of thumb is if you are changing the outside appearance of your property then you will require planning permission. So if you are having a dorma window or a mansard you will require planning but if you are only having velux windows to the rear of the property you will not.
Do I need building regulations for my loft conversion?
All loft conversions have to adhere to building regulations which are set out by your local building authorities this ensures the use of approved materials and construction methods.
How do I go about getting planning permission and building regulations?
You would need to contact the local building authority who will provide you with the relevant forms and guidance or we can take this off your hands and deal with this on your behalf.
How long will it take for planning permission to be granted?
It is generally around 8 weeks but can sometimes be quicker
What is a party wall agreement and will I need one?
A party wall is the wall between your property and your neighbours.
As work to construct a loft conversion may affect the structure of the party wall you will need to notify any adjoining neighbours.
Not all loft conversions require a party wall agreement as this wall is not always affected however again this is something we can advise at our consultation.
What sort of disruption should I expect?
Any disruption to you and your property is kept to a minimum.
During your loft conversion we will work from outside and will not need to have to access your home. The main disruption is when the staircase is installed as this is when we do what is known as the breakthrough into the house however we do our utmost to ensure this is as minimal disruption as possible to you and your home.
Are you insured?
Yes, we have full liability insurance to cover us for all work undertaken on your property.
Will you organise plumbing and electrics?
Yes we will deal with all the plumbing and electrics in your loft conversion and can also deal with any other plumbing and electrical work needed at your property. We have a full team of people that can deal with all requirements from start to finish so you do not need to have the worry of looking for additional workman.
Do I need to find any other tradesmen?
We use all the same highly skilled tradesmen on all of our projects taking your project from design to completion.
